SCAM ALERT: FMCSA Audit email scam

A new scam has recently targeted a large number of Motor Carriers, They are receiving very legitimate looking emails supposedly from the FMCSA. the email asks for information from you (Drivers liscence, insurance information, etc) to be sent in an email reply to the email and will threaten an audit if you do not comply.

The FMCSA will generally not call or contact you unless you contact them first. please be aware that this scam is out there and it is an attempt to steal your private information. WAYS TO SPOT THE SCAM

  1. The email will come in saying that it is often from the email "fmcsa.gov" which is not the FMCSA website the real FMCSA website is www.fmcsa.dot.gov

  2. The email will have a separate reply to at a .com the one we see the most is "safety-fmcsa.com" which again is not the FMCSA website.

  3. The email will have an attachment of a pdf of the MCS 5889 form. but it will only be the first page not all 3 in the hopes that you fill it out giving them all of your personal information

  4. the email will ask you to directly email them a copy of your certificate of insurance and your drivers license and ask you to fill out and send them the MCS 5889

  5. If you are unsure of any email you receive being a scam contact us immediately and we will look into it.
